Gorilla Coffee Wood Chews: Four Thick-Cut Sizes and the Amazon Carton-Weight Trap
Gorilla coffee wood chews: four thick-cut sizes by diameter and weight, pieces per carton, and why GRLXL is packed to a carton weight for FBA.

The Gorilla line exists for one customer complaint: a dog that finishes an XXL stick in a weekend. It is the same untreated coffee wood as the stick range, cut short and thick instead of long and slender.
Short answer: a Gorilla coffee wood chew is a thick block of coffee wood sold whole. WINVN makes four sizes, from 5–6 cm across and 8 cm long (155–230 g) up to 10–12 cm across and 15 cm long (550–900 g). The largest size is packed to a target carton weight per lot, because a fixed count cannot guarantee a carton under Amazon's standard inbound weight limit.
What "Gorilla" means
It is a shape description the pet trade settled on, not a brand anyone owns. Different suppliers cut to different dimensions, so the word on its own tells you nothing about what will arrive. The numbers do.
WINVN's Gorilla blocks are cut from the same Robusta coffee wood as the sticks, from trees over 20 years old taken out at the end of their productive life in Dak Lak and Gia Lai. The material, the drying, the moisture rule (below 14%, measured on every batch) and the five quality checkpoints are identical. Only the cut is different.
The four sizes
| SKU | Diameter × length | Weight per piece | Pieces per carton | Carton weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GRLS | 5–6 × 8 cm | 155–230 g | 60 | 9.3–13.8 kg |
| GRLM | 6–8 × 10 cm | 260–350 g | 52 | 13.5–18.2 kg |
| GRLL | 8–10 × 12 cm | 350–480 g | 40 | 14.0–19.2 kg |
| GRLXL | 10–12 × 15 cm | 550–900 g | set per lot | 16.5–27 kg at 30 pieces |
All four ship in the same 51 × 31 × 39 cm master carton as the stick line. The carton-weight column is simply piece weight multiplied by the count. GRLS and GRLM piece weights are indicative and are confirmed against the actual lot before the order is booked; GRLL and GRLXL are measured figures.
A block cut from a trunk does not hold a millimetre tolerance, so WINVN does not publish one for this line. The weight band is the specification.
Why diameter matters more than length
A wood chew stops lasting when a dog can get a molar around it and lever rather than gnaw. What decides that is how far across the piece is at its thickest. WINVN's XXL stick is 22–23 cm long but only 5.5–7 cm across. GRLXL is shorter at 15 cm and nearly twice as thick. That is the whole design difference.
The carton-weight trap for Amazon sellers
Amazon's standard inbound limit for a box is 50 lb, about 22.7 kg. A heavier box is accepted only when it holds a single oversize unit with a team-lift label, and a carton of loose chews is not that exception. Check the current figure in your own Seller Central account before building a packing list, because Amazon changes it.
Run the table above against that limit:
- GRLS, GRLM and GRLL clear it comfortably at their standard counts.
- GRLXL does not have a safe fixed count. A piece weighs 550 to 900 g, a 64% spread inside one size. Thirty pieces is 16.5 kg on one day and 27 kg on another.
So GRLXL is packed to a target weight for each lot, and the actual count comes back on your packing list. Tell us the shipment is going to an FBA warehouse when you order and the cartons are built to that from the start.
The principle applies to any supplier: multiply the heaviest piece weight by the quoted count and see whether the answer clears your inbound limit. A spec sheet nobody has multiplied out is a rejected shipment waiting to happen. For the wider FBA routing decision, see direct-to-FBA vs a prep centre.
Which size to list first
Chewing style decides this more than body weight. Two dogs of the same weight can destroy chews at completely different rates.
- A dog that works a stick down over two weeks does not need this line. Sell the stick; it is cheaper for the end customer.
- The returning customer whose last chew lasted a weekend is who the Gorilla line is for.
- GRLL is the cheaper way to test demand, with a predictable carton weight.
- GRLXL is the size WINVN's buyers order most once demand is proven.
WINVN gives a dog-weight recommendation per Gorilla size on request rather than printing one, because a recommendation published on a web page tends to be copied onto a retail listing, where it becomes the retailer's own claim.
Ordering the Gorilla line
- Minimum order: 50 pieces per SKU on stock packaging; 500 per SKU with your own printed label.
- Samples: free in any of the four sizes; you pay the courier. One GRLXL piece can weigh 900 g before packaging, so ask for the size you intend to list rather than a full set.
- Laser engraving: $0.10 per piece, the same as the stick line. The flat face of a block takes a mark better than the curve of a stick.
- Price: quoted against your sizes and destination. Gorilla blocks use far more raw material per piece, so the price does not scale from a stick quotation.
Four questions to ask any thick-cut chew supplier
- What does one piece weigh, and what is the spread? A single average with no range means nobody is weighing them.
- What is the finished moisture, and is it measured per batch or per container? A thick block dries more slowly through the middle than a stick, so this matters more, not less.
- What does a packed carton weigh? Multiply it out yourself and check the answer agrees.
- What share of incoming material is rejected? WINVN rejects about 20%, because no chemical step is used to rescue borderline wood.
Questions buyers ask
How many Gorilla chews fit in a carton?
60 for GRLS, 52 for GRLM and 40 for GRLL, in a 51 × 31 × 39 cm carton. GRLXL is packed to a target carton weight per lot rather than a fixed count.
Can Gorilla coffee wood chews go into an Amazon FBA shipment?
Yes, if the packed carton clears the inbound weight limit. GRLS, GRLM and GRLL do at standard counts. For GRLXL, say the destination is FBA when you order so the cartons are built to a weight target.
Is a Gorilla chew treated differently from a stick?
No. Same wood, same drying, same moisture rule, same checkpoints. Nothing is added to either.
