Size guide
The catalogue weight bands, what shifts them, and how to pick a size mix for a market rather than for one dog.

Weight is the variable that matters. Breed names appear on packaging because customers recognise them, but a Labrador ranges from 25 to 36 kg and a Poodle spans three separate size standards. Use breed names as illustration; keep weight as the rule.
A hard chewer gets through a correctly-sized chew faster than the owner expects and then reports that it 'did not last'; offering the next size up solves that. An older or gentle dog often ignores an oversized chew entirely and uses the size below. Neither case overrides the weight band as a safety floor - you never go smaller than the band for a strong chewer.
Small-dog markets concentrate demand in S and M with real volume in XS; a balanced mix leaves you holding XL and XXL you cannot move. Large-dog markets are the mirror image. A balanced mix is the right answer only when you genuinely do not know your customer profile yet - which is a good argument for a small, mixed first order.
Ordering a single size to test tells you almost nothing: if it does not match your customers' dogs, 'the product did not sell' really means 'the size was wrong'. And do not assume the size distribution from a previous supplier transfers - different materials wear at different rates, so the size an owner repurchases is not necessarily the one they started with.
