Coffee wood comes from trees that have finished producing after twenty to twenty-five years. Without a use, that wood is firewood. It is dense and fibrous, which is why it wears down under chewing instead of breaking into sharp pieces — the property the whole category depends on.

Coconut fiber is the husk left after the flesh and water are taken. Spun into rope and wound into balls, it gives a coarse texture dogs work at. It floats, which makes it useful for water play, and it is a play toy rather than a chew.

Hemp rope holds a knot better than coconut and resists unravelling longer. It sits between coconut fiber and coffee wood in durability. Neither fiber product is indestructible and we do not sell them as such.

Loofah is grown, dried and cut — there is no chemical step. It is light enough for a cat to push across a floor, which makes it one of very few genuinely natural options in a cat aisle that is mostly polyester.
